Welcome back from Spring Break

Our first week before spring break was a real test of our preparedness for online learning. We spent most of break figuring out best ways to be good teachers online. And a few parents asking about reduction in tuition. If you are not working because of Covid-19 then talk to me about that. Teachers across the US are working harder right now because we are scrambling to make sure that your students don’t have a learning gap. Every month spent without learning takes two to recover the set back during school. We have not stopped working. We have been able to work closer to a 40 hour week rather than the 60-70 hour week. Please realize that most of our budget relies on tuition.

On less serious thoughts. Being socially isolated has been, well, isolating. We had to get out this weekend, so we made a necessary trip to the store.

We went to Newport to shop. Not because we were concerned with our supply of TP. We just needed a different scene and a movie wasn’t the answer. As we were walking into the store my son says “I wanna get a look at the empty TP isle.” This is the first time in my life that I remember seeing empty isles also. So, we went back to the TP Isle in Walmart and sure enough – empty. I am not sure why Covid-19 has caused such a rush on TP.  I am enjoying all the memes and jokes regarding the TP shortage though.

I want to encourage you with a couple things.

Don’t panic! This is not a new situation. We can’t know if the world is coming to an end. During World War I millions died not only from the war but from the Spanish influenza. They had lock downs and people also thought this must be the end of the world. Many of you may also remember the mild alarm that the 80’s was going to be the end and then the 90’s then there was the Y2K scare. Here we are and it’s 2020 and still we wait.

We can’t know when the end will be. When Jesus will return again to take His children home. His return isn’t knowledge that can even be found in the Bible because it is known only by  our Heavenly Father. That is what Jesus said anyway in Matthew 24:36, “no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.”

The Bible offers another promise that I think is appropriate to this situation. I was reminded of it right at the beginning of the covid-19 lock down when people started seeing a shortage of TP and some started hording. The promise was ‘that our bread and water will be sure.’ I am not sure that living on just bread and water would be my first choice, but Mrs. McCombs makes some very good bread.

The take home thoughts are:

  • God Has This Under Control . He never does something big without letting his people know.
  • He knows us all by name and will carry us through this time.
  • This is a perfect opportunity to grow in our relationship with Him.
  • We are here to support you.
